What is the difference between Amanita Pantherina and Amanita Muscaria?

Chemical composition and effects on humans

There is a misconception that Amanita pantherina is 5 times stronger Amanita muscaria. This is mistake. Panther fly agaric and red fly agaric are different substances. Let's take a closer look at their differences. Amanita pantherina, like Amanita muscaria, contains ibotenic acid, muscimol and muscarine. However, in addition to these substances, Amanita pantherina contains scopolamine and hyoscyamine.

Scopolamine is a component of henbane, dope, belodonna. Causes a sedative effect, may have a hypnotic property, may cause amnesia, cause hallucinations. It acts on muscarinic acetylcholine receptors, blocks receptors, causing changes in perception.

Hyoscyamine is also an anticholinergic, acts like scopolamine.

In addition to inhibiting monoamine oxidase, like amanita muscaria, amanita pantherina has a strong effect on the acetylcholine system.

That is, the amanita pantherina has a similar effect as amanita muscaria and, in addition to this, causes hallucinations, loss of memory and orientation in time.
